Report: LDC5 Civil Society Forum

The Fifth United Nations Conference for Least Developed Countries (LDC5) concluded last month in Doha, Qatar. Divided into two parts, the first part adopted the new Doha Programme of Action for the Least Developed Countries for the Decade 2022-2031 (DPoA) on 17 March 2022 at the UN headquarters in New York. The second part, the main conference was held in Doha, Qatar, from 5 to 9 March 2023 and hosted many tracks including the Civil Society Forum. The Civil Society Forum was organized by a Core Group of civil society organizations composed of LDC-WatchThird World NetworkSocial Watch and Global Policy Forum.

Delivered at the Official Closing of LDC5, the Civil Society Forum statement outlined the situation and challenges of LDCs and vital policies and actions going forward. High level UN meetings, such as the 2023 SDG Summit, will be important opportunities to further push the progress on sustainable development for LDCs.
